IOcan Compatibility

IOcan runs OEM ZF 8HP transmissions standalone in swap, restomod and motorsport builds. If your gearbox is in the 8HP family and you’re driving it from a standalone ECU, IOcan is built for you. Not sure your exact combination is covered? Request a compatibility check and we’ll confirm before you order.

Supported transmissions

Transmission Status

ZF 8HP gen1 (8HP45 / 8HP70 and variants) ✅ Full support

ZF 8HP gen2 (8HP50 / 8HP75 and variants Fxx) ✅ Full support

ZF 8HP gen2 (8HP50 / 8HP75 and variants Gxx)  🔜 In development

ZF 8HP gen3 (8HP51 / 8HP76 and variants Gxx)  🔜 In development

DCT (dual-clutch) 🔜 In development

PDK 🔜 In development

If you’re unsure which 8HP generation or variant you have, send us the part number or a photo of the mechatronic label and we’ll identify it.

Supported ECUs

IOcan is ECU-agnostic — it translates your standalone ECU’s CAN data into the protocol the 8HP expects, so it works alongside the ECU you already chose. Confirmed in real builds:

  • Ecumaster EMU / EMU Black
  • MaxxECU
  • Haltech
  • Link G4X
  • And many more

Running a different standalone? Ask us — most CAN-capable ECUs can be supported.

Supported driver controls

Shift input is fully configurable and mapped in Apex Studio:

  • Sequential shifters
  • Paddle shifters
  • OEM gear selectors
  • CAN keypads and panels (e.g. Blinkmarine)

What IOcan does not need

  • No donor-car electronics
  • No factory harness or body modules
  • No TCU reflash — the mechatronic keeps its original BMW/ZF software
  • No external relay boards (power and wake-up are handled internally)

Proven builds

  • Ashley García — Rally La Cordillera P1. LS3 + ZF 8HP75X on IOcan, in a JAC T8 Pro rally truck. Read the case study →
